FAMOUS TOURIST PLACES IN IDUKKI

Thekkady: 114kms off Kottayam and 190kms off Kochi)
India's largest Wildlife Sanctuary declared a Tiger Reserve in 1978,. This sanctuary spread over an area of 777sq. Kms, surrounded by an artificial lake over an area of 25sq.Kms. 360 sq.km is thick evergreen forest
* Kurisumala(spring valley mountain) –(Near kumily)
A place for adventure tourism and trekking. This will offer a panoramic view of Kumily town and Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary.
*Murikkady- (5 km from kumily)
Murikkady is a beautiful location of coffee Cardamom, and pepper plantations.

*Mangala Devi Temple-(13km. from Kumily)
The temple is a classic example of temple architecture of ancient Kerala. Devi temple is situated upon a hillock that stands about 1337 m above sea level in Kerala-Tamilnadu boundary.Permitted during 'Pooja' is conducted her only once in a year on Chithira Poornima day. Permission to visit the area can be abtained from the Wildlife Wadren, Thekkady.
*Pandikuzhi-(Anakkara). (5 kms from Kumily)
This picturesque spectrum of exotic flora, fauna and gurgling streams is cradled between Chellarkovil and the Tamil Nadu border. A popular picnic spot, Pandikuzhi offers great opportunities for trekking and is a photographer's delight.
*Chellarkovil- (15 kms from Kumily)
This is a beautiful village that shares its borders with Tamil Nadu. . The scenic extravaganza including acres of luxuriant fields, plains and gurgling waterfalls make it a much sought out tourist destination.
*Ramakkalmedu-(30 kms from Kumily)
This village gives a vantage view of Tamil Nadu for miles on end .The Wind Energy Station of Kerala is situated here.
*Vandanmedu- (25 km from Kumily)
This is one of the world's largest auction centres for candamom. A walk through the sprawling cardamom plantations of Vandanmedu is a heady experience.
*Idukki Dam
The Idukki dam, built across the Kuravan and Kurathi hills is the world's second and Asia's first arch dam. The Idukki dam, lying close to the cheruthoni barrage is 550 ft high and 650 ft. wide. The Idukki Profect consists of three dams-the 550 feet high arch dam, 454 feet high Cheruthony dam and the Kulamavu dam

*Ilaveezhapoonchira- (55 km from Kottayam, 20 km from Thodupuzha)
This is another picnic spot, Surrounded by three enchanting hillocks - Mankunnu, Kudayathoor mala and Thonippara-this place ideal for trekking.
*Nadukani- (45 km from Idukki )
The place offers an ideal spot to catch panoramic views of the nearby low lying areas and Moolamattam town . A two storied pavilion has been erected here to better view.

This is an ideal spot to enjoy a beautiful sunset & an ideal place for quite meditation.
*Kulamavu:- (80 km from Thodupuzha)
Kulamavu dam lies in the vicinity of the Idukki dam.
* Meenuli -
It is noted for two acres of evergreen forests upon a huge Rock. The rock is more than 500 acres in area and is an ideal spot for mountaineering
*Kalliyanathandu:
Located on top of a hill, this is an ideal place to enjoy a panoramic view of the Idukki reservoir, the adjoining forests and mountains.
*Malankara Reservoir: -(6Km from Thodupuzha)
Artificial reservoir is a an ideal setting to enjoy a boating trip or to just laze around.

*Keezharkuthu:
The place is famous for its splendid Rainbow waterfalls cascading down from a height of about 1500 meters.

*Thattekkad Bird Sanctuary-(20 km from Kothamangalam)
This bird sanctuary in Devikulam Taluk, on the Ernakulam – Munnar Road. . There are boat cruises available from Bhoothathankettu to Thattekkad.
*CheeyapparaWaterfalls
The Cheeyappara and Valara waterfalls are located between Nariamangalam and Adimali on the Kochi Madurai highway. .
*Kuthumkal Waterfalls
The Kuthumkal waterfall provides a picturesque view of the water, cascading down from dazzling heights.
*Munnar – (106 kms from Kumily)
Located at an altitude of 1800m above sea level, this 'Kashmir of the East' is the first hill resort in the State. Munnar is well known for tea plantations and beautiful hills Munnar is situated at the confluence of three mountain streams - Mudrapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundala. 1600 m above sea level. Among the exotic flora found in the forests and grasslands here is the Neelakurinji. This flower that bathes the hills in blue every twelve years, Anamudi, which towers over 2695 m.
*Pothamedu – (6 kms from Munnar)
Pothaamedu offers an excellent view of the tea, coffee and cardamom plantations in Munnar. The rolling hills, the lush mountain and the breathtaking scenary here are ideal for trekking and long mountain walks

Acres of green lawns, exotic wildlife, and the marvelous The Sita Devi Lake with its mineral waters provides boating and fishing facilities. The Pooyamkooty and the Edamalayar Hydro electric Project sights are near by Devikulam

It is on the way to Top Stations. The Kundala artificial dam, Aruvikkad waterfalls is near Kundala.

This scenic place gets its name from the natural echo phenomenon here. Echo Point is on the way to Top Stations from Munnar

This is the venue of the first Hydro electric Project in Kerala and a place of immense scenic beauty

A panorama of waterfalls and rolling hills, Attukal, located between Munnar and Pallivasal, is a feast for the eyes.

*Lock Heart Gap-(15 km from Munnar)
This is the highest point on the Munnar-Kodaikanal road This is a location in Mattupetty. The place is ideal for adventure tourism and trekking.
*Eravikulam National Park (15 km from Munnar)
The 97 sq. km. is an exotic landscape and the home to the Nilgiri tahr.
*Rajamala (15km from Munnar):
This is the natural habitat of the Nilgiri tahr
*Nyayamakad(10km from Munnar)
Located between Munnar and Rajamala, Nyayamakad is a land of breathtaking waterfalls. The waters cascade down a hill from a height of about 1600 metres


*Anamudy peak- (10 Km from Munnar)
This is the highest mountain peak in the state known as 2nd Himalaya. The colossal mountain that stands as tall as 2694metres is situated on the southern boarder of the Iravikulam national park
*Marayoor- (40 km from Munnar)
This is the only place in Kerala that has natural growth of sandal wood trees. The sandal wood factory of the forest department, the caves (Muniyaras) with murals and relics from the new stone age civilization and the children's park spread across. Thoovanam waterfalls and Rajiv Gandhi National Park are also near by.
*Chinnar Wild Life Sanctuary -(60 km from Munnar)
The Chinnar wild life sanctuary is spread across 90.44 Sq.km. Chinnar is well known for the habitat of the endangered Giant Grizzled Squirrel of India
*Anayirankal- (22km from Munnar)
It is a lush green carpet of tea plants. It is an ideal picnic spot.

*Power House waterfalls- (18 km from Munnar)

The River Periyar flowing through the centre of this town nourishes its vast tea, coffee and pepper plantations. Vandiperiyar is also home to a number of tea factories, Sprawling tea plantations,green mountains,the Government Agriculture farm and Flower Garden
*Pullumedu (26 km from Vandiperiyar)
The winding journey to this hill town, along the Periyar River, offers a stunning view of the rolling hills draped in lush greenery. The famous Sree Ayyappa Temple at Sabarimala and the Makara Jyothi illumination at the shrine are visible from here. Permission to visit the area

*Pattumala- (17 km from Peermede, 28 km from Thekkady
Lofty peaks, little streams and ever expanding tea plantations are the attractions of this place. The Velankanni Matha Church, build entirely granite, at the top of the hill is famous pilgrim center.
*Parunthupara (Grampi)- (5 km from Peermede)
Grampi is also known as Parunthupara (eagle rock) because of the panoramic view from its peeks. Rocky plains, lush hillsides, forests, trekking trails and picturesque view lent charm to this destination. The road to Grampi is flanked by unending stretches of cardamom, tea and coffee plantations.

The lovely tea plantations is abundant natural beauty.The places Kuttikkanam and Vagaman are known as Kerala's Kodaikanal
*Peeru Hills- (4 km from Peermede, 1 km from Kuttikkanam)
The hill is named after Peer Mohammed, the Sufi saint, who spent his last days here. The mausoleum of the saint, the summer palace of the royal family and the residence of the Diwan situated nearby are all worth a visit.
*Kuttikkanam
This picturesque plantation town washed in the fragrance of cardamom is surrounded by lush, green hills. A well-established Ayurvedic Hospital,Sahyadri Ayurvedic Centre Managed by the Peermedu Development Society in Pallikunnu, is well known for its curative and rejuvenate treatment packages.
*Thrissanku Hills -(4 km from Peermedu, ½ km from Kuttikkanam)
The rolling hills, the lovely landscape and the gentle breeze make this an ideal spot for long walks. The hills offer a breathtaking view of the sunrise and sunset.
*Vagamon (25 km from Peermede)
Grass-covered hills, velvet lawns and the cool mountain. The chain three hills - Thangal hills, Murugan Hill and Kurisumala - is a mark of religious harmony. The dairy farm managed by the kurisumala monks is worth a visit. Pine Valley is also a good place for relax.
*Murinjapuzha water falls-( 6 km from Kuttikkanam )

It is considered to be the place where panchapandava lived during there forest life.Green mountains, the stone like furniture which are believed to be used by panchapandava.

Buy some delectable and rare spices and experience the decadent village lifestyle. Walk, or better still, take a slow elephant ride through the town's large plantations. Check out all best hotels in Kumily also.
